Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech, Tech, or GT) is among the best universities in the United States and the world. For more than a decade, Georgia Tech remains in the top ten public universities in the United States. In 2012, The Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked Georgia Tech-19 in the United States and 25 in the world. Engineering program was ranked 9th in the world. In 2015, Tech undergraduate engineering program is ranked 4th and graduate engineering program is ranked 6th by US News & World Report. Tech engineering degree programs including Aerospace (2nd), Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, Materials, and Techniques. Engineering technology program graduates include Aerospace, Biomedical / Bioengineering, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, Materials, Engineering, and Nuclear.

This educational institution founded in 1885 as the Georgia School of Technology as part of Reconstruction plans to build an industrial economy in the post-Civil War Southern United States. Initially, offered only a degree in mechanical engineering. In 1901, the curriculum has been expanded to include electrical, civil, and chemical engineering. In 1948, the school was renamed to reflect the evolution of trade school to a university research institutes and technical larger and more capable.
