Drake University

Drake University was founded in the aftermath of the Civil War in 1881 by Francis Marion Drake. One school at Drake University, School of Law, is one of the oldest law school in America.

This University is a private educational university located in Des Moines, Iowa, United States.

One of the routines that are always held by members of the university's annual Beautiful Bulldog Contest Drake. Where in the annual event, hundreds of bulldog owners bring their dogs to be judged by a celebrity panel, and the winner gets the honor of serving as the official mascot of the Drake Relays.

In addition to getting a variety of academic activities, students can also join with a variety of non-academic activities of the organization or sororities that have also been provided by the university. There are more than 160 clubs and organizations from a variety of focus including academics, arts, international, religious and service. In addition, there are also 14 fraternities and sororities on campus.

While other non-academic activities, especially in sports, Drake University has also provided a wide range of sports facilities and infrastructure as a place for students to develop their individual talents. With the facilities available, the students are expected achievement in NCAA Division I athletics, competition between universities, followed by Drake University sports teams, the mascot, nicknamed Bulldog.

In 2007 and 2011, Drake University gained pride as designated to host the nationally televised presidential debate at the time. A rare opportunity that is owned by another university. Moreover, since 1910, in every April, the largest track and field athletes arrived at the university for the Drake Relays.

The university consists of six colleges:
  • Faculty of Arts and Sciences
  • College of Business and Public Administration
  • School of Education
  • School of Journalism and Mass Communication
  • Law School
  • College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences


For the 2012-13 school year, Drake University placed third in the Midwest region of the US News & World Report ranked the university master. Among the masters institutions, peer-assess the academic quality of Drake ranks third in the Midwest and the seventh 149 of 542 in the country.

The ranking also shows that the academic profile of students in the entering class Drake continues to improve. The percentage of entering students in the top 25 percent of high school class rose to 75 percent, up from 69 percent just four years ago. Drake acceptance rate for entering students narrowed to 63 percent, from 78 percent four years ago.

Forbes magazine ranked Drake University at number 143 on the list of America's Top Colleges in 2014.
