Nebraska Wesleyan University

Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) is a privately owned, was founded in 1887 by Nebraska Methodist. In 2007, he had 1,600 full-time students and 300 faculty and staff. Schools teach the liberal arts tradition of higher education. Nebraska Wesleyan was ranked # 1 liberal arts college in Nebraska by US News and World Report in 2002. In 2009, Forbes ranked 84 of America's Best Colleges. Still affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

In September 1887, the cornerstone was laid for the Old Main, the building defines the campus. Still without stairs, window, or floor on several floors, classes begin in September 1888. The first graduating class were four women in 1890. The second graduating class, in 1891, consisted of four people. Nebraska Wesleyan receive accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1914.

This school is located in the former city of University Place, Nebraska. Today, it is part of the Lincoln, Nebraska; surrounding neighborhood is residential and shopping area of ​​the historic Lincoln.

Early, Nebraska Wesleyan is a liberal arts college; art schools, business and education; Conservatory of Music; Academy (SMA) also consists of a primary school and kindergarten. SMA terminated in 1931, and in 1941 the primary school (elementary school) and 1942 (TK). Nebraska Wesleyan offers a Master of Arts until 1937.

University currently has 48 majors and 39 minors. It also offers graduate programs: Master of Science in Nursing developed in 2000, a Master of Science Forensic first offered in 2001 and a Master of Arts in Historical Studies degree, the first class graduated on May 19, 2007.

Nebraska Wesleyan has been associated with four emblem in its history, featuring sunflower (1894-1907), Coyote (1907-1933), the Plainsman (1933-2000), and Prairie Wolves (2000-present). Brown and gold school colors are a tribute to the first symbol.

A fire on November 17, 2006, at the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house killed one brother and sends 3 people to the hospital in critical condition. Lincoln Police then quoted 2 male and 1 other arrest on charges of hazing and illegal possession of fireworks, although not in relation to this fire, so that the fraternity from campus suspension for two to four years. Phi Kappa Tau has returned to Nebraska Wesleyan University in fall 2011.

Team Nebraska Wesleyan, dubbed athletic as Prairie Wolves, is part of the National Association of Inter Athletics (NAIA), mainly compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). Prairie Wolves also competed as an Independent Division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) level III. Sports men including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and track & field; while women's sports include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Nebraska Wesleyan University ranked 8th on the entire college (4 in NCAA Division III) for students who have won awards all Americans. Nebraska Wesleyan University student athletes are also ranked third in Division III and the fifth for all universities to the NCAA Postgraduate Awards.
