The University of North Dakota (UND) is a public research university located in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Founded by the Dakota Territorial Assembly in 1883, UND is the oldest and largest university in the state. UND is ranked among the top 100 public universities in the country by US News & World Report. Including the only law and medical schools in the state, but is perhaps best known as the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, which trains pilots and air traffic controllers from around the world. It was the first university to offer degrees in unmanned aircraft systems operations.
UND specializes in aerospace, health sciences, nutrition, energy and environmental protection, and engineering research. Several research institutes are located in the UND campus including the Energy and Environmental Research Center, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center.

UND offers a total of 224 fields of study, including 90 undergraduate majors, 73 undergraduate minors, 54 master's programs, 27 doctoral programs, two professional programs (medical and legal), and a specialist diploma program in educational leadership. UND also has an interdisciplinary program that allows students to earn a degree in almost all courses. A collection of online classes and degree programs are offered to students across the nation and the world. This program online has highly ranked by US News and ratings of other leading online colleges. UND is one of 47 universities in the United States who have both accredited schools of law and medicine UND fully accredited and almost all. professors hold the highest degree available in their profession. On campus, academic classrooms ranging from small rooms able to seat about twenty students to major college bowl able to sit hundreds at a time. Many areas have wireless access for laptops and classrooms equipped with technology that allows professors to offer an interactive lecture. UND offers 1,000 computer workstations for student use and computer labs can be found in the library, Memorial Union, and in some academic areas.
Athletic teams compete in NCAA Division I. Most teams compete as members of the Big Sky Conference, with the exception of hockey men (National Collegiate Hockey Conference), women's hockey (Western Collegiate Hockey Association), baseball (Western Athletic Conference), and swimming (Western Athletic Conference ). Hockey guys have won seven national championships, and played at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
