Roger Williams University

Roger Williams University, commonly abbreviated as RWU, is a private, coeducational American liberal arts university located on 140 acres (0.57 km2) in Bristol, Rhode Island, on Mt. Hope Bay. Founded in 1956, it was named for theologian and Rhode Island cofounder Roger Williams. The university has no religious affiliation.

Operation university dates to 1919, when Northeastern University opened a branch campus in the YMCA building in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1940, the Board of Directors of the YMCA took over the school and the YMCA Institute awarded the first associate degrees in 1948. In 1956, the Institute received a state charter to become a two-year, degree-granting institution by the name of Roger Williams Junior College. During 1960, Roger Williams College began awarding bachelor's degree.

Requires a larger campus, the college purchased 80 acres (32 ha) of land by the beach and the main campus moved to Bristol in 1969. (RWU continue to operate a branch campus in Providence.) In 1989 a new president Dr. Natale A. Sicuro begins Roger Williams plans to 90s, and became president of the newly established concurrently Roger Williams Law School and, in 1992, led the change of name of Roger Williams College to Roger Williams University. RWU celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006.

Universities enroll about 3,800 undergraduate and 850 graduate students at 42 liberal arts majors and five professional schools. It is one of the few universities in the United States to offer a bachelor's degree in Marine Biology Direct, Having considered good school of architecture, and has the only law school in Rhode Island. The University also offers a degree in Construction Management; almost all the students leave the program CM have secured jobs in their field before graduation. The university is also one of the few institutions that offer online studies in Digital Forensics and also has a program in Computer Networks and Security. Approximately 85% of students live on campus.

This university has a campus weekly newspaper, The Hawks' Herald, which publishes about 20 issues per academic year, and FM radio stations, WQRI 88.3. The radio station plays everything from alternative to hip hop college.

In addition to learning, the students at this university can also join various organizations and student associations, which the university has given the club about 70 sororities. In addition, there is also The Performing Arts Center, affectionately nicknamed Barn, has become home to study dance and performing arts, music and theater for 25 years.

Of non-academic, students can also show their talents and abilities in sports, in which the university sports teams, the Hawks mascot named, competing with other participants in the competition Athletics NCAA Division III.
