Boise State University (BSU)

Boise State University (BSU) is a public research institution in Boise, Idaho.

Founded in 1932 by the Episcopal Church, became independent junior college in 1934, and has been awarding bachelor's and master's degrees since 1965. With nearly 23,000 students, Boise State has the largest enrollment of institutions of higher learning in the state of Idaho.

Boise State offers 201 degrees in 190 fields of study and more than 100 graduate programs, including MBA and MAcc program in the College of Business and Economics; Master and PhD programs in the College of Engineering, Arts & Sciences, and Education; and the MPA program at the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs, arranged in seven colleges:
  1. Arts and Sciences
  2. Business and Economics (COBE)
  3. Education
  4. Technique
  5. graduate studies
  6. Health Sciences, and
  7. Social Sciences and Public Affairs (SSPA)

Approximately 80% of the new students came to Boise State directly from high school. More than 76% of incoming freshmen who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and nearly 40% have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. [9] With more than 2,000 graduate students, Boise State also has the second largest enrollment of graduate school in Idaho.

For the academic year 2009-2010, Boise State has a student retention rate of nearly 70% among first-year students and 4-year graduation rate of 13.9%. The second level graduation rates and retention Boise State is the second best among Idaho State and the first among the "institutions that serve a larger population of adult students continuing education (which includes a higher percentage of part-time or student commuter with dependents) ". Five universities offer doctoral degrees, 16 graduate certificates, 77 master's degrees, 99 baccalaureate degrees and seven degrees of association. In 2010-11, the university awarded 11 doctoral, 641 master's degrees, 2,571 baccalaureate degrees, 219 associate degrees and 157 certificates.

university athletic teams, the Broncos, participate in NCAA Division I athletics (FBS for football) as a member of the Mountain West Conference for most sports. Wrestling Team is an associate member of the Pac-12 Conference, because the MWC does not sponsor the sport.

According to US News & World Report, Boise State University is currently ranked 61st (out of 87 with rankings published) as a regional university in the western United States. US News & World Report has twice listed Boise State as one of the top up-and-coming schools in the nation for regional universities. [24] The university is not ranked in the US News & World Report national rankings.

Boise State is ranked 617 (out of 650 ratings agency) at the Forbes America's Top Colleges, 2016.

College of Engineering
In the US News & World Report "Best Colleges 2013" Handbook and rank, Boise State shared the number 13 ranking among public institutions and tied for 35th among all undergraduate engineering programs in the country for universities that do not offer PhD programs. This is an improvement on the ranking in 2012 when it tied for number 15 among public schools and is tied for 37th overall. (The rating is based on a survey of engineering deans and senior faculty in all programs accredited by ABET conducted during the spring of 2012. The peer assessment score was 3.0 on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (distinguished).
